Artist Vincent van Gogh’s painted his “Sunflower” series in the town of Arles in the south of France between 1888 and 1889, and now almost 130 years later, his masterpieces will be celebrated in a virtual exhibit on Facebook Live. 

Five versions of van Gogh’s oil painting series are currently housed in five different museums across three continents, but through the magic of streaming a global audience will be able to see them today, reunited for the first time. 

The live broadcast begins at 5:50 pm (BST) live from the National Gallery in London, followed by presentations by the Van Gogh Museum in Amsterdam, Neue Pinakothek in Munich, the Philadelphia Museum of Art and Seiji Togo Memorial Sompo Japan Nipponkoa Museum of Art, Tokyo. Curators from each museum will explain the significance and nuances of their versions in 15-minute sessions. 

The museums also joined forces to create a virtual tour of the “Sunflower” series, featuring Willem van Gogh, the great grandson of Theo van Gogh, Vincent’s beloved brother.

This #SunflowersLive stream is a global tribute for an artist who, although popular today, was not widely appreciated during his lifetime.
