A U.S. Navy aircraft crew rescued two stranded civilians from an uninhabited Pacific Island on Friday after they spotted “SOS” written in the sand.

ABC News reports that the two boaters had been missing for seven days before they were found.

According to the U.S. Coast Guard, the pair departed from Weno Island on Aug. 17 with “limited supplies and no emergency equipment on board” making their way to Tamatam Island, Micronesia, but never completed their journey.

A patrol boat picked up the survivors and took them to Nomwin atoll in the Hall Islands following their rescue.

Hawaii News Now reports that a ship had noticed flashing lights emitting from the uninhabited Chuuk State island on Wednesday where the two were later found.
