A spokesperson for that state’s Department of Corrections confirms Travis Hittson died from a lethal injection that was administered Wednesday night at around 8:15 p.m.
Hittson was convicted in the 1992 slaying of 21-year-old Conway Utterbeck, a sailor with the U.S. Navy.
Authorities claim Hittson used a saw to carve Utterbeck into pieces after the murder. He then disposed of those parts in two different states, according to investigators.

Before his execution, Hittson refused to request a formal last meal.
A corrections official claims he was served the same dinner the rest of the prison population received Wednesday evening: meatloaf patties with brown gravy, mashed potatoes, peas and carrots, red beans, cornbread, bread pudding and an unspecified “orange beverage.”
According to Lisa Rodriguez-Presley, a spokeswoman for Georgia’s Department of Corrections, tells PEOPLE that Hittson “declined to make a verbal statement” when asked if he had any last words.
Four members of the media were present for Hittson’s final moments, according to Rodriguez-Presley.
